| Our Vision |
|
About three years ago, God gave us a very clear vision of what He wants our church to become. Pursuing that vision has meant taking a new direction, moving to a new location, and a adopting a fresh perspective. Thus far, it has been a great challenge, an exciting adventure, and a tremendous blessing all at the same time. The first thing God established in us is that we are not a religion. Religions are man made, and they are based on performing a set of laws, rules, and/or rites in order to become acceptable in the sight of God. This is completely contrary to God's design. Instead, He offers us His grace. This means that He makes us righteous and acceptable through the faith of, and in, His Son Jesus Christ. We live to please Him because He had already loved us, and because he gives us eternal life, but not to gain His love. We want to be about God's plans, purposes, and ways. We don’t want to follow the ways of man. Also, we are not trying to be a typical neighborhood church, where the members are primarily from one ethnic group or one area of the South Bay. Our members are from all over the South Bay (San Jose, Morgan Hill, Sunnyvale, etc). We believe that in order to obey the Great Commission, we need to reach out to the entire South Bay and all the diverse people that live here. Jesus said that we are to “make disciples of every ethnic group” and that we are to preach the Gospel to “every creature”. We are eager to see our church filled with folks from all the ethnic groups represented here. The composition of the church should represent the population of its community. This was the model of every local church mentioned in the Bible. The Lord has also shown us that we have made mistakes in the past in our approach to making disciples. Discipleship is not just theology driven (learning the belief system), but it is spirituality driven (a life-long journey of becoming like Jesus). It is our job as a church to come along side each member and help them to develop a spiritual, Christ like character. We do this by example, by encouraging and affirming, by helping them to discover their unique giftedness and design, and by equipping them with an understanding of God's Word. This is our vision: to be a house built by God for God. To be made up of people who have accepted God's gift of eternal life which is offered to us by God's grace. To choose to worship Him by surrendering to His direction, obeying His will, and making Him known in the South Bay. |
